Update on Public Comment for HUD HOME Consolidated Plan

The Foothills NC HOME Consortium is seeking public input on the a Draft Consolidated Housing Plan for Cleveland, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford counties. The long-term plan and associated action plan are considered an application for HUD HOME funds.

The proposed FY2022-2023 HUD HOME funding totals $815,652 with $734,087 for New Construction of Both Rental and Homeownership Housing and $81,565 for Administration. These funds are expected to benefit persons of low and moderate income for the program year that runs July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023. McDowell County intends to submit the FY2022-2023 Conplan and AAP to HUD on September 21, 2022.

The updated public comment period will be Aug. 20-Sept. 20. The draft will be available for review during that time on this site and McDowellGov.com. Physical copies will also be available to peruse during regular business hours at the Foothills Regional Commission Office, 111 W. Court Street in Rutherfordton, and the McDowell County Administrative Offices, 69 North Main Street in Marion.

Persons requiring an interpreter or other services in order to participate in this public process should contact the Community and Economic Development Department at 828-287-2281. A public hearing on the plan also will be held at the McDowell Administrative Offices during the County Commissioners’ meeting Monday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m.
